Esther Milardi, born in Reggio Calabria (Italy), moved to Britain to do a Masters and then a PhD which she dedicated to exploring the link between art and forms of self-representations. After teaching as a lecturer at Cardiff University, she started a new career in Interior Design. Fascinated by the creative inspiration provided by art to the world of interiors, Esther will introduce us to Italian Futurism,  an avant-garde  movement founded by Filippo Marinetti at the beginning of the twentieth century. Driven by a desire for renewal, artists like Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni and Carlo Carra’ put forth a new aesthetic based on the power of kinetic energy, speed and simultaneity. In her lecture, Esther will also explore the connections between the Futurist aesthetics of modernity and interior design.

All CASW Tuesday evening lectures are held at 7:30pm in School of Architecture, King Edward VII Avenue, Cardiff CF10 3NB
