Bedwyr Williams – Crewe: its part in my downfall
December 6 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Bedwyr Williams, artist and sculptor, was born in St Asaph in1974. His work also combines installation and stand-up comedy. He studied at St. Martin’s School of Art and Ateliers Arnhem. Many will have seen his haunting piece, Tyrrau Mawr (shown above), in the Artes Mundi in the NMW, where he was runner up in 2016. His 2017 solo exhibition The Gulch in The Barbican transformed The Curve gallery into a 90m series of theatrical installations. Using the sinuous nature of the space, he created scenes to transport and disorientate the viewer.
His numerous accolades include the Gold Medal for Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod, 2011, Paul Hamlyn Award for the Visual Arts and Creative Wales Award. Twice representing Wales at the Venice Biennale, his work combines art and life with a comedic twist which draws upon the quirky banalities of his own life. The enigmatic title of his lecture to CASW gives no hint as to what is to come…..
