Peter Brown – Painting Cardiff – 21st November 2017

Peter Brown is a British Impressionist painter, a Manchester graduate now living and working  in Bath, who has developed a plein air style never relying on photographic images. He was elected to the New English Art Club in 1998. In addition he is a formidable portrait painter and in 2008 won the Prince of Wales Award for Portrait Drawing. His work is regularly seen in Art Galleries in Cardiff where he has spent much time capturing the life of the city and its surroundings.

Stella Lyons – Margaret MacDonald and the Glasgow Four – 23rd January 2018

Stella Lyons is a Cardiff based art historian. Educated in Cardiff, she gained a BA [1st Class Hons.] in the History of Art at Bristol University during which she spent a year in Florence studying the art of the Renaissance. This lecture will look at the Glasgow Four, who included the painter and glass artist Margaret MacDonald. This group was influential in the movements of the time – the Arts and Crafts Movement, Japonisme and the Celtic Revival.
