Artist Notes:
Bert Isaac’s principal subject is the return of nature to abandoned places. His paintings are ambiguous and abstract meditations, in which energetic marks and vital colours echo the sensations in his memory. He is haunted especially by the Clydach Gorge near Abergavenny and the chasm of the Dorothea slate quarry near Caernarfon. But in effect, he has created a unique and personal imaginative world, where ‘the force that through the green fuse drives the flower’ brings resurrection and redemption. In their own quiet way, these pictures have something important to say.
