Notes: Will Roberts came to prominence in the 1950s and has exhibited regularly and successfully throughout his career. In the year following the purchase of this painting he had his first solo show in London, at Roland, Browse and Delbanco. Roberts regularly portrayed the everyday life of people in his home community of Neath, on farms, in pubs, libraries and domestic environments. A touring retrospective exhibition of his work was organised by Oriel Mostyn in 1993.
