Martine Brown
I am a Cardiff-based textile artist and founder of Textiles Reimagined. After a career in retail operations, I returned to education later in life, graduating with a first-class BA (Hons) in Textile Design from Cardiff Metropolitan University.
My practice explores textile waste, repair, reuse and our relationship with the natural environment, working primarily with reclaimed textiles. My influences come from both traditional textile practices and the landscape around me. I’m particularly inspired by Japanese boro, Indian kantha and the quilts of Gee’s Bend, where repair, reuse and the history of the material become part of the work.
Work illustrated: Jay wing – part of Threads of the Taff collection (2026), exploring ideas of regeneration, resilience and the natural landscape of the River Taff through reclaimed textiles and slow textile processes.

Renn Hubbuck-Melly (artist name, GORK)
I’m an AuDHD multidisciplinary self-taught artist based in Pontypridd. My background is in a creative writing. However, in the last few years I have found myself more drawn towards visual and material mediums which has allowed me to greatly expand my creative practice.
I work in all sorts of mediums including sculpture, mixed-media, video, text, performance and collage. I utilise any material, found object and process which I feel can bring my vision to the outer world. My starting point is usually one strong concept or image; I then use both intuition and in-depth research to craft and bring together all the various elements which tumble out of me to create a completed artwork. I’m drawn to the surreal, the subconscious, symbolism, synchronicity, unusual stories, the overlooked and the fringes.
Work illustrated: The work below is called ‘My FM Oscillates Between Red and Blue’ and was recently exhibited in the Open Exhibition over the summer at Oriel Myrddin. It’s a mixed-media piece exploring my relationship with radio waves. I use radio frequencies as an analogy to explain how I connect to others as an autistic person.
