Martine Brown
I am a Cardiff-based textile artist and founder of Textiles Reimagined. After a career in retail operations, I returned to education later in life, graduating with a first-class BA (Hons) in Textile Design from Cardiff Metropolitan University.
My practice explores textile waste, repair, reuse and our relationship with the natural environment, working primarily with reclaimed textiles. My influences come from both traditional textile practices and the landscape around me. I’m particularly inspired by Japanese boro, Indian kantha and the quilts of Gee’s Bend, where repair, reuse and the history of the material become part of the work.
Work illustrated: Kingfisher – part of Threads of the Taff collection, exploring ideas of regeneration, resilience and the natural landscape of the River Taff through reclaimed textiles and slow textile processes.
