Notes: Prichard was born in Criccieth. and trained at Birmingham College of Art. Although he lived and painted extensively in Europe and North Africa, the landscape of Wales was his constant inspiration. Prichard visited and revisited Wales as he evolved and updated his interpretation of familiar places. This beach became an increasing component in his repertoire when he lived in Tenby, for a short time, with his equally accomplished wife , artist Claudia Williams. South Front is the more select beach of the town and the painting is subdued compared to much of his work, showing for him a remarkable restraint both in colour and texture. It is in tune with the gentility of this particular area of a late Regency seaside town.
