Content: This substantial work by Mary Husted was shown in the 50th Anniversary exhibition of the Welsh Group at the National Museum and Gallery, Cardiff, in 1999. Her constructions are explorations of light and perception, using mirrors, glass, artificial illumination, pigment and reflective surfaces. She is fascinated by the changing conditions of light, and by the ways it affects our perceptions of the physical world, and our own place within it. Everything we see is conditioned by light as the medium of sensation, and we can be entranced by the changing qualities of light on static objects. She says, 'What I try to do as an artist is not to imitate what I see, but to find means to recreate the sensations which experience of the world produces.'
