Notes: This sombre and engaging painting captures the atmosphere of many British towns after the War and before the domination of the car began. The suburban setting, distant figure, winter light and dense branchwork of the bare trees show an affinity with the work of Carel Weight RA as well as the contemporary paintings of the purchaser, Evan Charlton.
