Content: The National Library of Wales has an image of this work here. The text is taken from the 1937 play Buchedd Garmon (The Life of Garmon) by Saunders Lewis. Garmon was Bishop of Auxerre in the Fifth Century AD and helped the Welsh Christians to a victory in battle against the pagans. This extract calls on the Welsh to protect and value Wales for themselves and future generations, an exhortation as significant now as then. This work was a specific commission by the purchaser, of a painting suitable for a parliament.
