Notes: Edward Le Bas was born in London, educated at Harrow, read Architecture at Cambridge University, and studied at Royal College of Art from 1924. He travelled extensively, painting in Majorca, France and Morocco, and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1933, with his first solo exhibition at the Lefevre Gallery, London in 1936. He was elected a member of the London Group in 1942, an RA in 1954 and was awarded a CBE in 1957. Le Bas was known for his richly-coloured portraits, landscapes, still life and flower paintings in oil.
