Content: Gifted to Caerleon Training College in 1951, which in 1975 formed part of Gwent Institute of Higher Education. In 1996 this institution became the University of Wales Newport and following amalgamation with the University of Glamorgan in 2013, the work was transferred to the University of South Wales collection.

Notes: Born Warsaw 1911; OBE 1981; RA 1990; died 2000. Herman fled to Glasgow before moving to Ystradgynlais from 1944 to 1955.His reputation developed from his depictions of Welsh miners and working men, and he influenced a generation of Welsh artists.
