In March 1999 Knapp-Fisher wrote to buyer Alaistair Crawford that the painting was '...of what must once have been a smallholding in a rather isolated position near a group of farm buildings called Rhoslanog...The location is only two or three miles North East of where I live at Croesgoch, and is typical of much of my landscape work, which is done close to where I have lived and painted for some thirty two years...The evening light throws into contrast the light washed buildings and water against the dark hill and fields.'
