Notes: Herman was born in Warsawin 1911 and in 1940fled to Glasgow before moving to Ystradgynlais from 1944 to 1955. He was awarded anOBE in 1981, became a Royal Academician in 1990 and died in London in 2000.His reputation developed from his depictions of Welsh miners and working men, and he influenced a generation of Welsh artists.
