Notes: Brangwyn was born in Belgium to Welsh parents who moved to England in 1875. He trained at the South Kensington Art Schools and worked for William Morris from 1882 to 1884.During his late twenties and thirties, Brangwyn travelled to Europe, the Near East and South Africa with Scottish artist Arthur Melville. He was a prolific artist, producing paintings, illustrations, murals, designs for household objects, and notable public commissions. He was a founder member of the Chelsea Arts Club (1891) and in 1913 became President of the Society of British Artists. In his later years Brangwyn lived in Ditchling, Sussex. He was knighted in 1941, and in 1952 was the first living academician to have a full retrospective at the Royal Academy.
