Notes: As tutor and then Head of Fine Art at Newport College, from 1949 to 1972, Tom Rathmell was involved in the Welsh art scene at a time of great change. Various styles came and went, without any obvious impact upon his own traditional academic approach. Yet immunity to the whims of fashion can have its benefits in consistency of skill and application.
