Notes: One of the two Welsh landscapes by Peter Coker purchased by Margaret Davies in 1954, this is a fine example of her prescience and support of twentieth century art in Wales. In 1956 Coker had the first of many solo shows in London, and he was elected to the Royal Academy in 1972. He became best known for working in a direct, intense and realist style. Coker was known as one of the leading Kitchen Sink Realists after leaving the Royal College in 1954, but turned to landscape in the late 1960s.
