Notes: Born Warsaw 1911; died 2000.OBE 1981; RA 1990. Herman fled to Glasgow before moving to Ystradgynlais from 1944 to 1955. His reputation developed from his depictions of Welsh miners and working men and he influenced a generation of Welsh artists.
