Notes: Bert Isaac studied at Cardiff College of Art under Ceri Richards. After an influential teaching career culminating with his appointment as Head of Art at the London Institute of Education, he returned to live in Abergavenny. He had numerous solo exhibitions since from the 1950s, including at the Howard Roberts Gallery in Cardiff, the Leicester Galleries in London, Newport Museum and Art Gallery, and the Museum of Modern Art Wales. He won the Gold Medal at the National Eisteddfod in 1989, and was awarded the MBE in 1999. A number of his early works are in the CASW collection, but this painting and Acquisition 720 represent the radical changes in his style and working methods since the early 1990s, using strong colour and energetic mark-making.
