Content: Bert Isaac's principal subject was the return of nature to abandoned places. His paintings are ambiguous, abstract meditations, in which energetic marks and vital colours echo the sensations of memory. He was especially drawn to the Clydach Gorge near Abergavenny and the chasm of the Dorothea slate quarry near Caernarfon, creating a unique and personal imaginative world, where 'the force that through the green fuse drives the flower' brings resurrection and redemption. In their quiet way, these pictures have something important to say.
