Notes: Born in Camarthen, Morland Lewis was a pupil and assistant of Walter Sickert. He taught at Chelsea College of Art alongside John Piper, Graham Sutherland and sculptor Henry Moore. In 1943 he died in North Africa, where he was serving as a camouflage officer. In April 1944 a memorial exhibition of his work was held at the Leicester Galleries, London. The forward of the accompanying catalogue was writtenby Hercules Enslin Du Plessis, the painter of acquisition 30.
